Our Copyright Policy:

*Copyright doesn't have to be complex or unfair-

For assignment photography:

The "rights cure" can be complex and if not handled well can lead to an adversarial relationship. To avoid this, we make it fairly simple and straightforward: we charge a creative fee that takes into consideration your intended usage, the degree of difficulty and the amount of time required to prepare, plan and execute your project.

If the subject matter includes your product, your location, your clients or staff, etc. then the rights we grant are for unlimited use. Releases for your employees are an internal matter. Simply put, you can use photos derived from the assignment for any future use without checking with us first or paying yet another fee.

If the subject matter includes models for hire, recognizable faces or property of others: you are required by law to obtain releases for your usage of a photo in which same appears.  In no case do we mean to infer that the granting of rights as regards photography produced by us for you includes any legal obligation that supersedes the rights of others. Obtaining releases is best accomplished by your representative at the photo shoot.

Fair use: we are liberal with the use of our photographs by students and educators for educational purposes. We do ask that permission be obtained prior to use and that certain precautions be taken prior to posting on the web.

Registration of copyright: all of our photographs are registered and copyrighted with the Library of Congress shortly after creation.

Granting of rights is conditional on full payment having been received. No exceptions can be made to this condition.

The intent here is to communicate our philosophy of what's fair and reasonable as we apply US copyright law to our client's needs. In no way is it to meant to be legal opinion or advice.

*Seek the advice of your lawyer as to how US copyright law applies to your project.
